Tan Tock Seng Hospital
Med–Psych Symposia Series 2000

Time : 5.30 pm – 7.00 pm
Venue : Lecture Theatre, TTSH
Organised by: Department of Psychological Medicine
Tan Tock Seng Hospital

This Med-Psych symposia series 2000 serves a threefold purpose. Firstly to promote and advance the scientific understanding of the inter-relationship among biological, psychological, social and behavioural factors in human health care and disease. Then, to integrate the fields of science that separately examine each of the factors, and lastly to foster the application of this understanding in education and health care.

Psychological disorders have always been a significant prevalence in medical inpatients and outpatients within the general population. When appropriately assessed and intervened, it will result in a reduction of overall morbidity, mortality and cost containment. Despite sophisticated techno-medical advances, the need for psychiatric / psychological knowledge and skills will continue to be strong.

Our aim is to bridge the medical and psychiatric interfaces. To do so, we have selected five separate topics of importance for discussion.

At its conclusion, participants will have acquired proficiency in evaluating and treating the medically ill and disabled patients. They will be cognisant of possible treatment strategies and the use of appropriate combinations of various pharmacotherapies and psychotherapies for effective intervention and management.
